My name is Tom Perry and I dreamt up the idea for White Stone from my kayak in the spring of 2013. My mission since day one has been to grow the very best oyster on the Chesapeake Bay. I believed that finding the absolute ideal location and implementing the proper growing method was going to be fundamental to achieving this task. In 2014 we delivered our very first oyster to the Homestead Resort in Western Virginia and we haven’t looked back since. We now regularly sell millions of oysters per year and in December of 2021, sent individual boxes to over 3,000 unique zip codes.
If you are new to White Stone, welcome to the family; let me tell you a little bit about how we are different. Unlike the traditional methods of raising oysters on the bottom, White Stone Oysters are grown on the surface of the water column where the algae content is the most plentiful. On top of that, White Stones are grown in a location that maximizes water flow. We grow our oysters smack dab in the middle of the Bay. Not only does this provide algae to the oysters, but the unique environment facilitates the shape and quality of our shells.
This past year we have been hard at work keeping up with the demands of mother nature and the increasing appetite for oysters around the country. At the start of 2021, we vowed to grow our best oysters yet. We have been on a relentless mission pursuing this goal and we are so happy to see the fruits of our labor starting to blossom. The 2021 crop that we started in May 2021 at 1mm (the size of a grain of sand), is now 2”. Despite lots of literal and figurative headwinds, we are on track. The shape, color, and meat of this seed are absolutely remarkable. We can't wait to share them with you starting this summer. Until then, don't hesitate to order the oysters ready for delivery.
