I got my oysters, now what?
Easy! Unpack the box, store sack in a cooler or pour oysters into a bowl for storing in the fridge. You can also check out our blog on serving raw oysters for more tips.
For the fridge: You want to be careful not to let your oysters dry out, which is why the damp towel is important. If you’re storing oysters on ice, make sure they don’t sit in freshwater. Stored properly, your oysters should keep for up to 10 days.
Spotting a dead oyster is simple. If the bivalves are open, that is a clear indication they have perished. We recommend not eating dead oysters.
Can I freeze my oysters?
Freezing oysters is pretty tricky. You can freeze raw oysters, technically, but it won’t be as good. If you do decide to freeze your oysters, make sure to only eat them cooked. However, we recommend enjoying fresh oysters instead.
How do I know these are safe to eat?
Don’t eat raw shellfish if you’re pregnant or immune-compromised, and don’t eat something if it smells bad, looks bad, calls you names or if you’re unsure if it’s been kept cool enough.
All of our oysters include a harvest tag on the bag to show you the time and date of harvest and the harvest origin.
When should I order?
Our oysters are shipped overnight, or in some cases, the same day. However, we need a minimum of 48 hours to complete your order, and most shipping services don’t run on Sundays. So, if you wanted your oysters Monday, we’d recommend ordering by Thursday just to be safe.
Just an FYI, we can only ship to street addresses. No P.O. Boxes. Your oysters will arrive in a durable Styrofoam cooler, lined with ice packs, wrapped in a cardboard box.
