It’s the best time of the year! Football season! Or, is it oyster season? Luckily for us, they tend to overlap, and now is the perfect time to try some new game-day oyster recipes. We grabbed some of our favorite recipes to help you put out a delicious spread for the next big game.
Kaki Fry Oysters
This Japanese recipe yields crispy, light, and delicious oysters. It makes a perfect game day pairing for early autumn with a bright lager or seasonal beer.
What You Need:
- 16 White Stone Oysters
- Dash kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Canola oil, for deep-frying
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup Japanese panko breadcrumbs
- 4 cups shredded green cabbage
- 1 lemon, cut into wedges, for garnish
- 1 bottle tonkatsu sauce, or tartar sauce, for dipping
What To Do:
- Shuck your White Stone Oysters
- Add salt and pepper to oysters
- Bring canola or vegetable to roughly 350’F in a medium pot
- First coat your oysters in flour, then eggs, then panko
- Add to the hot oil and fry until golden brown
Broiled Oysters
Sometimes game day can be an overload of fried food, which is why this broiled oyster recipe is a great way to break up the monotony. It pairs well with seasonal beers and wines.
What You Need:
- 2 tbsp parsley, chopped
- 2 tbsp oregano
- 2tbsp thyme
- ⅛ tsp. Red pepper flakes
- 2 tsp. Champagne vinegar
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
- 2 dozen White Stone Oysters
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
What To Do:
- Preheat your broiler
- Shuck your White Stone Oysters
- Mix herbs, red pepper flakes, oil, and vinegar in a large bowl
- Add oysters, toss to coat
- Move entire mixture to a small baking dish
- Top with parmesan cheese and pepper
- Broil until golden brown and bubbling
