One of our ongoing missions at White Stone Oyster Co. is finding ways to Better the Bay. Not only do we make our livelihood from these waters, but we also care deeply for this region, its ecology and its people. To that end, we want to share these helpful tips from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation on how you can celebrate the holidays while protecting the Chesapeake Bay.
- Buy local! We know everyone says this, but it truly makes a huge difference. The Chesapeake region’s industries were hit hard by COVID-19 and every dollar counts. Veggies, oysters, seafood and more can all be found here. Contributing to local farmers can help to revitalize our region.
- Recycle oyster shells! If you ordered oysters for the holidays, don’t forget to recycle your shells. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation offers several drop off sites. Recycled oyster shells can be used to create habitat for millions of oysters and other regional wildlife.
- Consider donating to the Bay on Giving Tuesday! This November 30th, every donation made to the CBF will be matched dollar for dollar by the board’s trustees. Learn more here.
- Get outside! Sometimes the best way to remind yourself of the importance of our natural resources is by spending time outside. Burn off some calories before your big meal with a hike or a bike ride.
Have a happy holiday season! We thank you again for your support and for helping us Better the Bay.
