There are dozens and dozens of oyster recipes featuring oysters as a side dish. We’ve even published a ton of them ourselves. But, this can do a disservice to oysters everywhere and they totally deserve their time in the spotlight. The next time you want to serve oysters as your main course, try some of these tasty side dishes.
Jalapeno Cornbread Muffins
The sweet/savory combination of flavors in these muffins works well with many dishes, including oysters. Making the cornbread in a muffin form will encourage your guests to eat with their hands, which they’re probably already doing if they’re at an oyster roast. For an added twist, add a little cheddar to the muffins as well.
Lemon Pasta
If you want a filling side dish to serve with your oyster roast, look no further. This dish is quick and super easy to make and is light and zesty while still being filling. The citrusy flavor will go well with oysters without overpowering them.
Shrimp Hushpuppies
Nothing says seafood like hushpuppies. These golden, delicious little fried beauties will go perfectly with your oyster main course- especially if you’re catering to kids or picky eaters. Like cornbread, they’re filling but also a good mix of sweet and savory to compliment the oysters. Adding shrimp to the hushpuppies keeps them even more on theme for your pairing.
Roasted Green Beans with Bacon
If you want to add some green to your plate this delicious recipe is a perfect pick. Throw these green beans on the grill right next to your roasting oysters and enjoy. When cooked, they’ll have a crispy texture and an umami mouth feel thanks to the bacon- perfect for pairing with oysters.
Crab Rangoon Cups
Just like oysters, crab rangoon makes great finger food and is great for an oyster roast side dish. This baked recipe means they’re a little healthier and easy to prepare at home. Match with a cocktail sauce or other dip and serve.
With their powers combined, these side dishes can help round out your next oyster roast and leave your guests feeling full and happy.
