As summer draws to a close, many people are thinking about putting away the beer cooler and bringing out the cocktail stirrer. Pairing oysters and cocktails as an appetizer or happy hour course are a stylish and flavorful way to please your guests and bring out the subtle flavors in both.
Here are our favorite cocktails to pair with your freshly shucked White Stone Oysters.
Classic Martini
This iconic duo works well because of the flavor profiles of both commonly used liquors. Vodka’s clean and neutral flavors prevent the beverage from overpowering the oyster, allowing the salty umami notes to stay on the palette. Whereas gin, which is often infused with juniper and other herbs enhances the flavor of the oyster creating complimentary notes.
Here’s a simple recipe for your next get together:
Ingredients:
- 3 ½ oz. vodka or gin
- ½ oz. dry vermouth
- Olive or lemon garnish.
Pour liquor and vermouth over ice, shake or stirred and garnish.
Margaritas
Anything citrus based is a shoo-in to pair with oysters. The bright, tangy flavors make oysters sing on the tongue. The smokiness of a good tequila also pairs well with delicate seafood flavors making the margarita a great choice.
Try this recipe:
Ingredients:
- 3 oz. tequila
- 2 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1 oz. simple syrup
- ½-1 tsp orange liqueur
- Salt
Mix all liquids and shake over ice, rim glass with salt and pour.
